Block Blast Tips: Keep Space Open & Plan Better Clears

Improve your Block Blast board decisions with a space-first checklist, line-clear examples and a way to review mistakes without chasing score guarantees.

On this page 7 sections

A practical starting plan based on documented mechanics. Check the current in-game prompts when controls, events or prices change.

Treat usable space as the resource

An empty board area is useful only if a shape can fit into it. Several isolated gaps may be less useful than one connected area with the same number of cells. Before placing a block, look at the spaces you will leave behind, not just the number of occupied squares you remove.

Compare two legal placements before committing

One placement may complete a line immediately but leave a notch that is hard to fill. Another may preserve a larger connected opening. Compare both against the shapes currently visible. Prefer the clear when it improves the next board as well; delay it only when you can explain why the remaining space is safer.

Use row-and-column intersections deliberately

The documented rules clear completed rows and columns on an 8×8 board. A move near an intersection can contribute to both. Count which cells are still missing before arranging a larger clear, and avoid building a plan that depends on receiving an unknown future shape. The next piece is not owed to you.

A checklist for a crowded board

Find the largest shape you must currently accommodate. Identify its possible spaces. Look for a clear that creates another placement. Then ask whether a proposed move splits the remaining area into unusable holes. If only one legal option remains, use it and review how the board became constrained rather than assuming a secret scoring trick was missing.

Review the last useful decision

After a run, recall the placement where open space first became fragmented. Try a different approach next time: reserve a connected area or clear an awkward edge earlier. Judge the decision by the options it preserved. A higher score can still depend on the sequence of pieces, so this method does not promise a particular total.
